For Every Child . . . and Every Family

In a world where pain and brokenness often find their way into our homes, the need for compassion, empathy, and gospel-centered care has never been greater. Trauma-informed care is not just a strategy—it is a commitment to seeing people through the eyes of Jesus. By embracing love, care, and the redemptive power of Christ, we can transform our homes into places of restoration. Whether we are parents, caregivers, mentors, or friends, we have the privilege of being vessels of God’s healing grace.
Those words were recently shared by Mary Beth Chapman, and as a mom and “Grammy” as well as Show Hope Co-founder, she knows pain and brokenness well. She has experienced it firsthand, and she has seen it in the faces and stories of children and families. Yet May Beth also knows there is hope.
In a recent blog post, she wrote, “Steven and I believe true healing is the heart and love of Jesus. The Bible teaches us in Psalm 147:3, ‘He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.’ Jesus modeled perfect compassion … reaching out to the hurting, the outcast, and the broken.”
This is the heart behind Show Hope’s Hope for the Journey resource. And the Chapmans’ vision for it: To address the knowledge barrier to adoption and to support children and families, helping parents better understand the children’s unique history and needs.
For 15 years, Hope for the Journey has been guiding and equipping parents and caregivers, church leaders and professionals, including social workers, educators, counselors, judges, and more. To place a figure on it, more than 155,000 individuals have been impacted by the conference-style resource. From its first iteration of the Empowered to Connect Conference, the demand for Hope for the Journey has only grown, and this year, we are taking one of our biggest steps in making this much-needed resource more accessible and available, moving from a three-month digital access model to now year-round availability.

“While Hope for the Journey had long been classified as a ‘conference,’ in reality, it had become an on-demand resource with viewing availability for three months,” Show Hope Executive Director Kristin Parks explained. “Requests for further access outside the three-month viewing window continued to grow year after year, particularly over the past 12 to 18 months. Additionally, we began to see an influx of organizations requesting 12-month access for the ongoing training of staff as well as for parents and caregivers they serve.”
This spring, the Show Hope team fully launched hopeforthejourney.com, a new online learning platform. In addition to the 12-month availability, we have also introduced a new package for experiencing the content. As you explore the new platform, you will find familiar options of viewing the content in the comfort of your own home as well as viewing together in community within your local church. However, for churches, ministries, or organizations, you can now purchase access for multiple individuals to view on their own for training or onboarding purposes, whether those individuals include parents and caregivers or staff and volunteers.
“Since 2003, our mission has been focused on reducing barriers to adoption,” Kristin said. “And with our new Hope for the Journey online learning platform, we are continuing to reduce barriers, making this transforming content even more accessible to families and to those on the frontlines who work daily and passionately to care holistically for children impacted by trauma and loss.”
One thing that has not changed with the introduction of hopeforthejourney.com is the proven and trusted content. Hope for the Journey will continue to explore the fundamentals of Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®) across five teaching sessions as well as supplement video content—chock-full of knowledge, insight, and practical tools. Rooted in research and neuroscience, the Connecting, Empowering, and Correcting Principles of TBRI will continue to guide you to a better understanding of your child’s or teen’s needs and equip you to adequately meet those needs, no matter how complex or challenging.
“We are so grateful that we were introduced to Dr. Karyn Purvis and Dr. David Cross and their beautiful research and work that is TBRI,” Mary Beth shared. “It is a proven work—one that offers hope in seemingly hopeless situations—and it has proven to align with the heart of God, our Father.”

As in years past, the Show Hope team will lead an exploration we have coined “The Gospel + TBRI.” While TBRI is clinical in nature as it does involve the complexities of science, we, at Show Hope, have long seen it as a practical way for us to express our faith in Jesus in everyday life, particularly as we lead our children to places of healing and hope.
As Kate Johnson, Show Hope’s Senior Manager of Programs, shared in a new Hope for the Journey video segment, “Consider TBRI as a different way to love our children—much like Jesus ushered in a new way to love. He does not shame us. He does not push us away. No, he has taken away our shame, and he draws us to him, as the father welcomed home the prodigal son. He’s the originator of re-dos and Life Value terms, and through his Spirit, he empowers us daily to thrive and flourish.”
Like working out our own faith, practicing TBRI is an ongoing journey, with always more to learn. To even better serve and equip you, hopeforthejourney.com will also include access to resources, like a TBRI Practical Application Guide; quizzes for tracking your progress; a certificate of completion; audio recordings from past conferences; and “Going Deeper” as well as bonus video content on select topics, like Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and exploring sensory needs and integration.
“Hope for the Journey is one of our favorite Show Hope works. It’s an opportunity for us to rally around families with hope in the form of encouragement and practical resources and tools, as you journey to love and care for the children entrusted to you,” Mary Beth said. “From our own experience, Steven and I know that this journey we are on can feel isolating and overwhelming at times, yet it is our prayer that you all know—in the deepest parts of your soul—that Jesus is for you. His love is enough, and His promises will never, ever fail you. Even when life shifts and twists and turns you upside down, He is faithful still.”
