He Will Provide

The McGlathery Family, Show Hope Medical Care grant recipient family

Elizabeth and Jon McGlathery stepped into adopting their third son, Noah, knowing he lived with medical needs. They said the possibility of receiving a Show Hope Medical Care grant made
the financial weight of their yes feel a bit lighter.

“We felt clearly the Lord called us to grow our family solely through adoption, and we wanted to be faithful to that,” Jon said. “Simultaneously, the financial hurdles and obstacles that come along with adoption are still valid. But Show Hope allowed us to say ‘yes’ more comfortably and overcome some of those hurdles financially. And so we are just forever thankful for their hearts and their mission.”

Noah, who is now 4 years old, has what his mom describes as “layers of medical needs.” After bringing him home from South Korea, the financial impact of those medical needs began to mount, so Elizabeth and Jon prayerfully decided to reach out to Show Hope to begin the Medical Care grant application process. They were already well acquainted with Show Hope having received Adoption Aid grants for all three of their boys. Elizabeth, who has worked for nonprofits throughout her life, said she appreciated the in-depth application processes for Show Hope’s grants.

“I think that transparency and accountability are just so important in the nonprofit world, especially giving grants,” Elizabeth said. “And the application process for both the Adoption Aid grant and the Medical Care grant, are extensive. They’re crossing their T’s, dotting their I’s. And I just really appreciate that there is transparency. There’s a level of accountability there, showing your finances, showing your tax records, essentially, you know, showing the receipts. [The process] holds families to a standard that I think is important when they’re receiving donors’ money. Though it is time consuming and can feel a little overwhelming sometimes, it’s worth it.”

Today, Show Hope’s Medical Care grant is helping to give Noah the attention he needs, from numerous medical scans to appointments with specialists and corrective eyewear, among other needs.

“Stepping into adoption and parenting kids from adoption is hard,” Elizabeth said. “There are so many layers to navigate, and when you add medical needs on top of that, it’s just a lot. Honestly, any support that families like ours can get—whether it’s through prayer, hands-on support, financial support—it just carries a lot of weight for families. We’re really appreciative.”

Noah’s parents said he is spunky, passionate, joyful, mischievous, adventurous, and so brave. Elizabeth and Jon also said they love that Noah shares a heritage with his two brothers—Wilson, who is 9, and Judah, who is 5—both of whom are also from South Korea.

“Just continuously, God affirmed that we were to adopt from Korea,” Jon said. “And then with our other two adoptions, giving them that shared commonality, being able to share that culture—that heritage was important to us. There’s a lot of loss in adoption, and if we could give them some kind of common ground to maintain with one another, that was important to us.”

The McGlatherys said the Lord has shown them how to trust him throughout the adoption process. They are also so grateful to Show Hope and its donors for coming alongside them in growing their family through adoption and supporting their family in post-adoption care.

“Through the course of our three adoptions, the Lord has really taught us and showed us that he will provide,” Elizabeth said. “Time and time again, he will provide. I mean, truly, we never fear about the financial part of adoptions, and so that carried over into post-adoption care—the medical care side as well. Being able to trust the Lord and knowing Show Hope was a resource were definitely comforting along our journey. It wasn’t our deciding factor—I feel like the Lord was calling us to this child regardless. But Show Hope played a role in giving us some clarity on knowing there could be support.”
