Meet the Smith Family!

Adoption has always been a part of Nichole and Alexander Smith’s vision of their family.

“Early in our relationship, I remember having conversations about building a family with adoption as one of the cornerstones,” Alexander said. “My own story [featured] adoption as a natural and beautiful way to define a family.”

In addition to both of his parents being social workers, both Alexander’s mother and sister were adopted.

After struggling with infertility and experiencing the heartbreak of multiple miscarriages, Nichole and Alexander were told that growing their family biologically would not be possible.

“With the love and support of our family and friends, we decided to go full force into adoption,” Nichole said. “As we have waited for our child to come home, we have learned patience, compassion, and to trust in God’s timing.”

While the journey has not looked quite like they had imagined, the Smiths remain confident in God’s sovereignty and grateful for the lessons they are learning in this season.

“We have wanted to build our family for so long, and watching others build theirs while we are still waiting has been a tremendous test of patience,” Alexander said. “The process of adoption is not an easy one nor is it always quick or inexpensive. We have found compassion while we wait, recognizing that every family is constructed in a different way. Everyone has a different story to tell of how their family came together. Nichole and I have learned that God’s time is perfect and that in his time this [journey] will be wonderful and beautiful.”

By giving to the Adoption Aid 20/20 Campaign, you are helping more families like the Smiths welcome their children home.

We recognize that we are all living in a unique, uncertain time. Individuals are losing jobs, some of you included; families are feeling the impacts of COVID-19; and we all certainly feel a level of timidity and anxiety. At Show Hope, we are wrestling with how to proceed with our mission in such a time as this. We are convinced now, more than ever, that the work of Show Hope is needed and vital. Our mission is centered on helping to provide home and connectedness for children who might not otherwise experience family. We are aware that for the children we serve, much of life is lived with daily uncertainty. It is, to that end, that we ask you to join us in prayer as we are also praying for you, our country, our world … and the children and families we serve.
