A Moment with Mary Beth Chapman
The minute Shaoey was placed in my arms, I got it.
As we welcomed her into our family through the miracle of adoption, I was confronted with my own adoption story. I finally understood what God did for me. He adopted me too, and nothing is going to separate me from that adoption. It was a huge day for me.
Shaoey was placed in my arms, love took me in, and everything changed.
As you can imagine, those moments were profound. Our family had expanded as well as our hearts, and I wanted to tell everyone what they were missing!
On the plane ride home with Shaoey … I remember it well … God imprinted on my heart that through Steven’s platform and my loud mouth, He could move the hearts of His people to become involved in adoption.
Back home, what I had sensed on the plane began to take shape. We met people who desired to adopt, but the financial barrier was just too overwhelming for so many of them.
Steven often tells the story that a line of families began to form, and I began to write checks—sometimes faster than he could write songs! We saw the need, and we knew we had to help.
So, in 2003, exactly 20 years ago, we founded Show Hope with its mission to care for orphans by engaging the Church and reducing barriers to adoption.
I clearly remember our early hope of helping 100 children come home through adoption. It was a huge dream, but God—as He does—had something much bigger planned.
Today, we have helped more than 8,400 children from more than 60 countries come home to the love of a family. Only God can do that!
By the end of June, Show Hope has strategically planned to award nearly $3 million in Adoption Aid grants, with the aim of impacting 325 children and families in their pursuit of adoption.
And this month, Steven and I humbly invite you to prayerfully consider joining us in raising $350,000 in Show Hope Adoption Aid grants.
With our grants ranging from $6,000 to $10,000 each, $350,000 would allow us to award some 45 families with the financial support needed to help welcome home their children. That is literally more than 1 child per day in the month of April.
What better way to celebrate and honor 20 years of Show Hope than locking arms with us through a financial gift to our cornerstone Adoption Aid grants work?
We know we will get there but not without you.
