I wish that I could identify a specific instance that prompted me to adopt, but it’s impossible. I have felt called to adopt for many years and always knew that someday I would build my family through adoption. After a lot of prayer and promptings of the Spirit, I began the process to adopt a child from China. Just two weeks after I began the process, I was matched with my daughter!
What I learned most during my adoption journey was that we are all reliant on one another, and that relying on the Lord’s provision sometimes means relying on the people he has brought into our lives. God has created us for community, and through the adoption process he taught me the importance of humility and relying on the supportive community I have been placed in.
Adoption has impacted my life in so many ways. Aside from making me a mother, adoption has opened my eyes to the plight of orphans in China, particularly older children with special needs. It has given me a heart to love these children and help them find families. I feel like it has shown me that I cannot say “I can’t” simply because of my own comfort or selfishness. Adoption isn’t without challenges, of course, but I am so incredibly grateful to be Ella’s mom!
Show Hope has played such a significant role in my adoption. The Adoption Aid grant they gave me was a huge blessing! I was able to bring my daughter home thanks to the generosity of Show Hope’s sponsors and donors. Additionally, I was so grateful for the incredible adoption resources provided by Show Hope, especially the books and videos from Empowered to Connect. These resources were so helpful to me as I prepared to welcome Ella home. I want to thank all the generous donors who make Show Hope’s Adoption Aid grants possible.
