Want to make a difference in the life of a child? You can advocate for orphans by utilizing your own unique talents! One of our amazing advocates recently organized her own Show Hope Shindig in the form of a benefit concert! Below, she describes the process of setting it up and how her heart for orphans was strengthened along the way.
God really began to move my heart toward caring for orphans when my aunt and uncle were in the process of adopting my cousin several years ago. Then, I had the amazing opportunity to intern at Show Hope. It was one of the most meaningful experiences I’ve ever had, and I really believe wholeheartedly in the ministry. One of the things I’ve heard a lot is that not everyone is called to adopt, but everyone can do something to care for orphans. And while part of my story is that I want to be a foster parent and adopt children one day, and I believe that’s a desire God will fulfill in me at the right time, caring for orphans is something I can do right now. If everyone just brings what they have to give — their time, talents, or money — we can make a huge difference as advocacy events
Several months ago, I decided to begin organizing a Show Hope Shindig! Being a musician, a concert was the first idea that came to mind. I love to create opportunities to sing with other people, and I am very blessed to know some extremely talented folks. All of the music fell easily into place centered around God’s faithfulness. I spent about three months planning for the concert — choosing the music, inviting people to join me, hosting rehearsals, booking the venue, and promoting the event. It was a lot of work, but I enjoyed the planning!
The concert took place in Nashville, TN on Saturday, March 14th. It was just wonderful! I was so pleased with how it all came together. Everything ran smoothly and everyone had a great time! It was such an honor to have Emily Richards of Show Hope speak at the event. She spoke about the work of Show Hope and the importance of caring of orphans; everyone was very inspired by her words.
Just knowing that more children will find families is reward enough, and I’m so thankful for the opportunity Show Hope gives people to help in very tangible ways. My grandparents came from out of town to visit and attend the concert! It was incredibly special to have them there with me. Also, some attendees told me that they’d love to help out if I decided to organize another Show Hope Shindig in the future!
The amount of money we raised far exceeded my original goal of $1,000. We raised $3,465!!! There were also several people who told me they didn’t know about Show Hope before the event, but were grateful to learn about the important work Show Hope is doing around the world. There are so many different ways that you can be an advocacy events for Show Hope! God has called us to this work and He’ll be right there with us through it all.
