Life-Changing Surgeries for Orphans

Mending Kids International

With the fall season in full swing and Thanksgiving right around the corner, we are taking this opportunity to remind ourselves of everything we are thankful for here at Maria’s Big House of Hope! We may not have caramel apples or piles of crunchy leaves to jump into, but we have hearts that are filled with love and gratitude.

This season, we are thankful for the sweet smiles on the children’s faces as we soak up the warm sunshine on our afternoon walks. We are thankful that our babies have warm, fleece pajamas. We are thankful for an amazing staff of people who provide love and medical care for each precious child. And, as always, we are thankful for Show Hope sponsors and donors who make all of these things possible!

Mending Kids International

This month, we had a special addition to our list of blessings! Mending Kids International (MKI) sent Dr. Frykman along with his skilled medical team to MBHOH in order to provide complex surgeries for twelve of our babies. This is their fourth trip to MBHOH and we are so thankful for their investment in our children! Dr. Frykman, anesthesiologist Dr. Kimble, and their team of medical professionals gave so generously of their time and talent to help give these children excellent repairs and to train our local medical community. The surgeries were performed at a nearby hospital where our own Dr. Zhai joined with local pediatric surgeons. The last day, Dr. Frykman and nurse Janet Kimble hosted a conference with local surgeons and medical professionals for additional teaching and collaboration!

Our hearts are thankful for so many things, but this month, we are especially thankful for Mending Kids International for giving these children hope, love, and healing.
