3 Things You Should Know About Waiting Children

3 Things You Should Know About Waiting Children

As we strive to restore hope to orphans around the world, the following three things are helpful to keep in mind:

1. God calls each child by name. God has given all of us an instinctual yearning to be known by name. When discussing the global orphan crisis, it is important to remember that the children who are impacted are not simply part of a faceless statistic. By their very nature, they each carry a unique dignity and beauty. They are made in the image of God and he knows each one by name. With more than 140 million orphans in the world today, it is important to remind ourselves of this truth.

2. Lifelong challenges. It is difficult to fully understand the complex loss that can abide within the heart of a child who has been orphaned. Even for those who eventually enter the love of a family, the impact of early trauma, abandonment, neglect and/or abuse will to varying degrees inform every element of life and relationship. Although some children seem to attach with seeming ease and navigate these early losses with resiliency, the reality for others can be quite different. Show Hope has worked diligently to provide training and post-placement resources that better equip families and care professionals to meet the needs of children from such difficult beginnings. Our hope and prayer is that as we continue to press into the needs of the world’s waiting children, we would also be used as a resource in their healing. Our Empowered To Connect conferences are a great resource for pre- and post-adoptive families. Click here for more information.

3. Orphans need families. Inherent within each one of us is the desire to “belong” and waiting children yearn for a family who will love them unconditionally. Show Hope provides food, shelter, and medical care for orphans with acute medical needs at our life-saving Care Centers in China, but at the end of the day, these children still have one need remaining: a family of their own. Through our Adoption Aid program, we strive to tear down the financial barrier to adoption by providing financial grants to families who are in the adoption process. By becoming a Show Hope Sponsor, you will help provide waiting children with loving families through these Adoption Aid grants. Click here for more information.

We hope and pray that all hearts would be opened to see the needs of waiting children in this country and around the world. We also pray that our eyes would be opened to see each waiting child as unique and beautiful. Infinitely more than a number or statistic, these children are precious beyond measure. The Father to the fatherless will not be silent to the cries of his children; and we pray that neither will we.
